If your character has had a fine imposed upon him or her by a Reeve, or owns a home, he or she is responsible for the payment. In the case of a home, taxes are due at the beginning of each real life month. Fines are due as soon as they are imposed.

The tax command is usable only within a bank. Without an argument, it will return any fines you owe, plus the amount of taxes you are responsible for. If you currently owe taxes, it will tell you.

You cannot pay taxes early; they are only payable after the code is updated for the current month.

The fees listed in tax are in silver, if you owe any. Failure to pay taxes will freeze your assets until such time as you pay your debts.

Reeves can check for unpaid taxes via the levy command.
