Purchase
These are the commands available through the purchase command. These may only be used during Chargen.
Birthdate
Syntax
purchase birthdate [month] [day]
purchase birthdate today
purchase birthdate random
The birthdate purchase is NOT charged against your experience; it is with the purchase command simply to make it easier to use and find.
To purchase, simply specify the month # (1 through 12) and day number (1 28-31, depending upon the month), such as purchase birthdate 5 5.
If you would rather have a random birthday, use the random option to have the code select one for you. To set todays IC date as your characters birth date, use today option.
It should be noted that you cannot purchase a birthdate in the future, if you have set your year already. Setting a birthdate may only be done once per character - it is immutable until the character dies.
Class
Syntax
purchase class [#]
purchase class [name]
Class is a measure of your birth social standing. It is almost impossible to change. If you are born a peasant, you will almost definately die a peasant. The gaps between these classes are generally insurmountable because, if nothing else, those in power refuse to recognize changes in the position of those below them that endanger their own place.
On the Inquisition, we have the following classes: Peasant, Freeman, Gentry, Nobility.
The peasant class defines those with few or no rights under the law. They are generally poor tenants, and given no opportunities in life. Their toil feeds the rich, and while they are the foundation upon which society thrives, they reap very few rewards for their work.
A freeman is a person who works solely to support his or her self, and is usually moderately skilled. They can own land (if they can afford it) and excercise rights over other types of property. Usually, the freeman owns nothing more than the equivalent of a cottage or a small amount of trade goods.
Gentry are those freemen who have amassed enough wealth to leverage themselves into the lifestyle of the nobility, though not the title. Frequenty, nobles resent them, but are often forced to embrace them. Gentry tend to be very socially conscious of the precarious position in which this places them, with money and the power that comes with it, but no specific law-granted rights to either.
Nobles are those who are granted titles and lands by the king. They have additional legal rights that grant them significant powers under the law simply because the king has decreed it so. These characters are, at this time, solely application characters that cannot be created with purchase.
Established
Syntax
purchase established
If your name is cyan on the wholist, that simply means that you have under 10000 experience, and may be a new player. This makes others aware that you may not be familiar with all of the IC and OOC rules of the game, so people may offer you help. If you do not desire this help, or feel you are comfortable with the game, typing purchase established should remove that flag from your name.
Goal
Syntax
purchase goal [text describing your character's goal]
Purchase goal allows a player to specify a goal for his or her character. This indicates what the character is about to the player as well as the imms. While you don't have to stick to your character's purchased goal (and it can be changed at any time), QP may be awarded for achieving it, since imms can keep track of a character's RPed progress. Only imms (and you) can see your goal.
You may wish to save important goals in your desc notes as well, so that if you accomplish one, an imm can look back and possibly award QP.
Height
Syntax
purchase height up
purchase height down
purchase height [+/-] #
Your character is given a random height based upon the region from which he or she has come. If you wish to change it, you may do so. Lowering the height frees some experience back to your character, while increasing it will cost some. This is because height is figured in combat - and the higher heights have an advantage over those who are shorter, due to greater reach and higher center of balance.
It should be pointed out that, if you purchase height, your WEIGHT is relative to whatever it currently is - ie, the taller you become, the greater your current actual weight will be. The lower your height, the lower your weight.
If you use the # argument, such as purchase height +10, it will adjust your height from your current height, not your original height.
If you are of adolescent age, or a child (ie, below age 16), your height index will be adjusted to reflect the fact that you have not grown to your full potential. As you age, your height (and, therefore, your relative weight) will change to reflect growing.
Silver
See Wealth.
Skills
Syntax
purchase view [skill] [rank]
purchase skill [skill] [rank]
You can purchase skills while still in the newbie zone.
To know how much xp is needed to purchase a skill at a particular rank, type purchase view [skill] [rank].
To actually buy the skill, type purchase skill [skill] [rank]. This will set the character's skill to the rank they specified, with a 1% progress amount. For example:
> purchase skill staff 61
------------------------------------------------------------
Melee Rating
------------------------------------------------------------
Staff Grandmaster Rank : 61(1%)
Purchasing skills will only work if you have enough xp. Since xp spent on skills is a permanent cost, and you cannot purchase downward to get experience back, purchase view should be used as above to be sure of the cost.
Wealth
Syntax
purchase wealth
purchase silver
The game allows players to buy silver in exchange for xp. Currently this is the only way to gain money, besides what you start with, and what you earn ICly.
purchase silver gives you 10 silver, which is automatically deposited to your bank account. The xp cost of using purchase silver differs among classes: peasant, 400; freeman, 300; gentry, 100; and noble, 200.
purchase wealth decreases this base cost for all classes except gentry, simply because they already are wealthy. When this option is used, the base cost of using purchase silver will be as follows: peasant, 300; freeman, 200; gentry, 100; and noble, 100. Purchase wealth costs 50000 xp.
Some other things to note:
- Purchase silver and purhcase wealth can be used even outside the newbie
area.
- If you don't have a class selected and you use purchase silver, the
cost will be based on that for the freeman class (300).
Weight
Syntax
purchase weight up
purchase weight down
purchase weight [+/-]#
The weight of your character is based upon his or her height and region. The greater your height, the higher your weight. It is directly relative to height inasmuch that, if you change your height value, your weight will change of its own accord to be comparable to the new height.
Weight figures in combat - if you are greatly outweighed by someone, you will have little luck unseating their center of balance, as with a bash.
It should be noted that if you use the # argument, such as purchase weight +3, it uses your current weight as a baseline, and modifies it from there.
Year
Syntax
purchase year #
purchase year random
purchase year age #
This command is to set the year in which your character was born. It does not cost to set, the command is with purchase to facilitate its use.
You cannot set the year in which you were born to a date in the future. If you set it to a young age, you will be autoset with the CHILD or ADOLESCENT ability, which will then fade with time.
Your age will be a determining factor in some aspects of your characters abilities - too young or too old, and your character will be limited in the number they can gain, or the maximum they can attain.
The RANDOM setting will set a random age between 15 and 50 for your character.
