Latent Magic
From InquisitionWiki
Mages and other application characters are generally for experienced players, but anyone who successfully applies may be one of these regardless of their time on The Inquisition. We do not in any way bias applications to the amount of hours or time a person has played on TI. However, there are some concepts that any person seeking to apply to play an app character must understand and agree to before we will allow them to play one of these types of character.
First, you are bound by your character application. If TI staff approves your application, it is because we think the concept is both beneficial and reasonable to play in our environment. We're not particularly keen on monitoring a player's progression, but glaring violations of your application may have your character suddenly lose the ability to use magic or whatever other benefits you have gained.
Second, these types of characters die. They may die fast or slow, but they almost always eventually die. It may be gruesome, you may take people with you, but the staff of TI is not going to protect your character from the theme of the game. It's harsh, but it is the theme. Please be prepared to handle the dangers and the emotional extremes of playing a hunted character on The Inquisition.
Thirdly, understand that there's usually very little we can or will do to protect you from the abuse of OOC information. If it gets out OOCly that you're a mage (or whatever it is that you are), you have the burden of proof (see Burden of Proof) that someone has gotten their information OOCly.
Likewise, and specifically for mages, magic is very secretive and does not always work the way that it is expected to. Sometimes there are bugs, other times, players think something is buggy without truly understanding how a spell works. In either case, we will fix bugs when we come across them, but we will not guarantee that magic will work consistently or even properly when you yourself attempt to use it. If this lands you in a bind, we will not be overwriting, reversing, or otherwise changing RP to suit your expected outcome. While this may seem unfair, the honest fact of the matter is that this is a messy process and is frequently just as "unfair" to others as it is "fair" to you.
Being any one of these sorts of characters opens you up to potential abuses that are otherwise much less likely and common by other players. While the staff does our best to maintain order and quality service to all players, please understand that these characters are in a unique position of being crippled by their underlying concept. Thus, we warn you that it is not the staff's place to "fix" injustices, but to maintain the environment of the game in its best form, which in this case means to protect the theme.
