Character Generation
This is where you create your character. It is important that you choose carefully, here, as many of the following decisions can greatly influence who and what your character is. The steps outlined here will help you through the process.
Part One
The first section is all through prompts the MUD provides you. You must complete part one before you are able to save and quit (it is quick).
Name
The very first thing you are prompted for is your first name. You are generally free to choose whatever name you like, here, as long as it is not too close to existing names (the game MUD will inform you if that is the case), and as long as it is within the bounds of policy. Make sure to review the Name Policy, too.
Options: <name>
You will next be prompted for a surname (the last name of your character). This follows the same premise as your first name.
Regional Origin
This is your character's heritage. For an detailed explanation on the different regions, see the Regions Page. If this is your first character, Lithmorran is the recommended race. (Lithmore is the only city available in-game.)
Options: <Lithmorran, Tubori, Vandagan, Charalin, Vavardian, Hillman, Farin>
The number displayed next to each race is the XP cost. Choosing any race other than Lithmorran will limit what other options you have available, so choose carefully.
Also to note, you can attach your characters to a paccount to share XP amongst all your characters, making other races a more viable option later on.
Latent Magic (or Magery)
The next prompt (if activated) will ask if you wish your character to have Latent Magic or Magery, depending on TI's current mage population. Selecting yes is a dangerous option, as magic is the prime evil. Again, if this is your first character, we strongly recommend you choose no.
Options: Y/N
Statistics
This is a very vital point of chargen, as it becomes very difficult to change these stats once you have entered the game. It is advised that you have a solid character concept to follow for assigning your attributes. For ideas, feel free to view the Character Concepts section, and also the statistics portion to know what each attribute means. Also, browse the Skill List for any skills you might want, and make sure to meet the prerequisites when assigning stats.
Note: You have 150 points to spend, and all stats begin at 35. You cannot put more than 50 additional points into one stat.
Options: help
reset
<statname> <amount to increase>
Gender
This is basic. You choose your gender here.
Options: M/F
That concludes Part One.
Part Two
At this point in creation, you are actually placed in a room, and you finish chargen through commands. The rooms exist solely to help familiarize you with the theme and the MUD itself.
Welcome Room
This room is common and general information about the MUD. It is strongly suggested that you read the Overview to get quick grasp of the theme.
Once finished here, move north.
Theme
This is to help direct you to help files regarding the Theme of TI. Note, to the west is a room with character suggestions, and even a list of suggested professions. There is an Erra Pater on the ground - be sure to get a copy. Once you are comfortable, move onward.
Character Setup
The purpose of this room is to set up some important, personal aspects of your characters (Purchase). Let's take it one step at a time.
Purchase Class
First step is deciding on your class. If this is your first time, you'll be limited to peasant or freeman. For details about each, see classes.
Options: purchase class <class>
Purchase Height/Weight
With this, you can set your character's height and weight. To see your currents, type SCORE. Increasing and decreasing these variables depends on your current height/weight. For example, if you are 5'5" and wanted to be 5'7", you would type purchase height +2. Also note that your weight is based on your height.
Options: purchase <height/weight> +/-<amount>
Purchase Birthdate
This sets your birthdate. You may want to view the Calendar, though the month/day setup matches the Gregorian setup. The options are self explanatory. Note, you choose your birth year after this step. The latter of the below options follows the format: purchase birthdate 1 1 (that would be Jan 1st).
Options: purchase birthdate <random/today>
purchase birthdate <month> <day>
Purchase Age
Here you set the year of your birth. Random will set your age anywhere between 15 and 50. The 'age' option allows you to simply input your age, and it will automatically determine the year of your birth.
Options: purchase year <random/year>
purchase year age #
Purchase Goal
Your character's "goal" is selected here. This serves as an indication for the Immortals what your character's intents and hopes are. This isn't definite, as you can change it whenever you like, though you may be awarded QP for achieving it.
Options: purchase goal <text describing goal>
Purchase Skills
Skills is the most complex part about chargen if you are new. It's important to learn how the skill system works. Information about skill ranks and the skill list are the most essential at this time. You can always improve your skills later through a method known as inspiration, but it is much slower and less effective. You can only purchase skills while in chargen. You must have enough xp to be able to purchase the ranks in a skill. Ensure that you reach the minimum stat requirements of a skill by typing 'ab [skill]'.
To know how much xp is needed to purchase a skill at a particular rank, type purchase view [skill] [rank].
To actually buy the skill, type purchase skill [skill] [rank]. This will set the character's skill to the rank they specified, with a 1% progress amount. For example:
> purchase skill fishing 20
You have purchased rank 20 in fishing for 3000 experience.
To see your skills, you can use the command ab <skill/subgroup>. Viewing by subgroup will list all skills within the subgroup, while viewing by skill alone will show just that. Here's a subgroup example:
> ab nature
------------------------------------------------------------
Nature Rating
------------------------------------------------------------
Track
Forage
Fishing Proficient Rank : 20(5%)
And an example on the skill alone:
> ab fishing
Fishing : Rank 20 (5%)
You cannot go beyond rank 25 in Chargen. To go beyond it later, you need to master the skill.
Options: purchase view [skill] [rank]
purchase skill [skill] [rank]
Intro
This is important. Your intro is what other people will see you as, when you perform an action or they see you in the room. When you have decided on your intro, use the request option. To see your current intro, use view. There are a few basic guidelines, which are as follows:
Include:
- 'a' or 'an' (note the lowercase) at the beginning
- gender
- at least one defining characteristic
- at most, fifty characters of text
- what can be seen by others at a glance
Do Not Include:
- subjective words
- clothing descriptions
- actions
- any punctuation at the end
- race
- color codes
Options: intro request [short desc]
intro view
Player Account
You may make your character a part of your account. The benefits to this are that your characters can share their RPXP across accounts. You can do this at any time. To view information about your current account, simply type account. If you create an account, make sure you remember the password, as it will not be retrievable later.
Options: paccount
paccount create <name> <password>
paccount join <name> <password>
paccount password <old> <new>

Part Three
This is the final section before you are free to enter the game.
Description
Your description is what people see when they look at you. A description should provide only what another person would reasonably see in a cursory look.
Common etiquette is to avoid actions or feelings, as these are arbitrary in nature and may not apply at all times. Eye color, hair color, facial features, skin tone, eye setting, scent if applicable, anything PHYSICAL are acceptable. Anything further, mannerisms, background, upbringing, etc should be roleplayed out, not force fed through your description. Note: This means you should not be smirking in your description, nor should you peer at the onlooker, nor should you perform ANY other action in your description. If your character always smirks or grins at people that look at him/her, you should emote every time someone looks at your character.
You are not required to have a description immediately, although it is encouraged. As you progress throughout the game, you will receive up to five warnings that you must have a description soon. These begin when you attain 15, 000 experience points, and continue each 3, 000 experience points until you have reached 30, 000 experience. If you still have no description at that point, you will not earn any further experience.
For more information and help about writing your description, see the Description page, as well as the physical descriptors page. Typing desc alone will put you in the editor to set your description.
Helpinfo
Your helpinfo, should you decide to make one, tells common information about your character, that other people would be able to find out about asking around ICly. Only people who have remembered you are able to view your helpinfo. Make sure to review the policy before setting this. To do so, type desc helpinfo, and you will be put in the editor.
Options: desc
desc helpinfo
Restring
Here you are allowed to modify the gear that you start off with. There are three fields of objects that matter right now. Below is an example of an object:
Short: a loose fitting, collared linen tunic, laced along the neck Long: A linen tunic lies here Keyword: tunic newbie
- The short is what you see in your inventory, and when you are wearing the object.
- The long is what you see when the object is on the ground.
- The keyword is what you use to interact with the object (get, wear, remove).
You cannot make an object with a short longer than 59 characters. Make sure to read the Sumptuary about the different IC restrictions concerning equipment.
If you like, you are also able to set the extended description of an object. This is what you see when you examine the object, when it is your inventory. Note that when setting the extended description, it puts you in an editor to set it.
Options: restring <object keyword> <short/long/keyword> <string>
restring <object> extended <add|delete|edit> <keyword>
